Norwich Hosts International e-Democracy Conference

Norwich hosted the third e-voice International Symposium on e-Participation on May 22 and 23. More than 100 delegates from Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden and the UK were based at The Maids Head Hotel. The conference was the final meeting of the four-year EU funded evoice project, which explored the opportunities for multi media communication to increase public involvement in local democracy.

Virginia Edwards, Manager Norwich & Norfolk Conference Bureau said. “We were delighted that the evoice symposium chose to come to Norwich and Norfolk. The Maids Head Hotel was the perfect venue, combining a wonderful heritage – the hotel is the oldest in England – and the best of modern facilities. The Maids Head has just completed a £2.65 million refurbishment.”

The Maids Head Hotel has just completed an extensive refurbishment that enhances it’s traditional comforts but adds a note of contemporary style. You’ll find fresh décor and furnishings in all the bedrooms, free high speed internet access, updated conference and syndicate rooms as well as public areas.

With a striking black and white timber façade, the Maids Head offers a warm welcome at a hotel steeped in history. Dating from the 13th century, the site is reputed to have been the home of William the Conqueror's bishops. It is situated in the centre of Norwich, opposite the Cathedral and surrounded by cobbled streets filled with picturesque shops and cafes to explore. From this central location, delegates at the Maids Head can experience the great shopping in Norwich or explore the many attractions on offer in the city.

Conference facilities include a large function room, the L-shaped Minstrel Room which holds 200 plus 7 flexible meeting rooms and 2 syndicates that can be used for a variety of events from small-medium conferences, board meetings, training days and private dinners.
There are a variety of dining options from the newly refreshed Courtyard Restaurant, Yard and Club bars where soft Jazz provides a note of sophistication, to the new Coffee Bar. For an added bit of pampering ‘The Beauty Room’ offers a range of relaxing treatments.
