Norwich Fastest Growing Tourist Destination

The Norwich ForumLateRooms.com's top ten fastest growing UK tourist destinations finds Norfolk capital in number one spot.

UK tourists flocked to Norwich last year with the city experiencing the fastest growth in overnight hotel stays in the UK.

This is according to research by late availability hotel specialist LateRooms.com, which compared bookings from 2006 and 2007 to find the UK's emerging tourist destinations.

Norwich JarroldsNorwich topped the chart by almost trebling the number of overnight stays booked last year - up 168 per cent compared to 2006.

Not far behind was Durham which saw a 165 per cent increase in bookings during the same period.

Canterbury, Sunderland and Liverpool also made the LateRooms top five with overnight stays more than doubling in 2007.

"Our research reveals the UK's emerging destinations for last minute breaks and shows a move away from more traditional breaks," said Tony Walsh, development director at LateRooms. "People looking for nights away are no longer restricting themselves to the traditional UK tourist destinations such as the big cities, the seaside or well known beauty spots."

The ten fastest growing UK destinations based on overnight stays booked in 2007 according to LateRooms are:

  1. Norwich 168%
  2. Durham 165%
  3. Canterbury 124%
  4. Sunderland 117%
  5. Liverpool 113%
  6. Scarborough 112%
  7. Gloucester 99%
